Nick’s Picks- Day 5 at the US Open
Li Na vs Laura Robson
Li Na is a grand slam champion and a great entertainer. She has solid ground strokes. Takes the ball very early.
Robson is a lefty coming off a serious hand injury. She is developing an excellent lefty serve. If her wrist does not give her trouble she has a darn good backhand. Her serve must be working. Will have to gamble, you can’t keep the ball in play with li Na.
This will be interesting to see the youngster playing the old timer. Match will be determined by Robson’s ability to cut down on unforced errors.
Nicks pick- slight edge to Li Na due to experience. There should be no pressure on Robson.
Jamie Hampton vs Sloane Stephens
Nice to see 2 Americans in the third round. Both are very promising. Both are hard hitters with great movement. This will put a little more pressure on Stephens because she is higher seeded and playing a fellow American. Stephens cannot press and put pressure on herself.
Nicks pick- edge goes to Stephens
Novak djokovic vs Benjamin Becker
Becker is a veteran at 32 years old. He has been around a long time. Yes, he can be dangerous, but he is playing against a man that really does not have a weakness. He can do a bit of everything and when he plays like he can this will go to him.
Nicks pick- djokovic
Lleyton Hewitt vs Juan Martin Del Potro
Del potro is a giant. He has a big serve with a steady backhand. He has a killer straight arm forehand. What will happen in this match? Hewitt cannot hit with him, he must throw some angles and high balls. Staying behind the baseline will not be enough to beat Del Potro.
Lleyton refuses to say he is finished. In his mind he is still a youngster. The longer this match goes, can Hewitt keep on counterpunching? For Hewitt to win this match he must rattle Del Potro.
Nicks pick- Del Potro
Matches to watch
Tommy haas refuses to say he is finished. He is in tip top shape. Come cheer him on.
Sabine Lisicki is on a roll, hitting for winners wherever she is. Her serve seems to be clicking too.
