Nick’s Picks- Day 8 at the US Open 2013

Ana Ivanovic vs Victoria Azarenka

Ana is a great retriever who doesn’t have a great weakness. However she doesn’t have a great strength either. I believe that when you play against Azarenka, who is focused on getting to the finals, you have to have a weapon which Ana doesn’t have. Azarenka is the more aggressive player and will win this match.

Nick’s Pick- Azarenka

Tommy Robredo vs. Roger Federer

Robredo doesnt miss too many balls, but he doesnt make too many outright winners. Federer is on a mission playing extremely well. He gets into his forehand as much as he can.

Nick’s Pick- Federer

Philipp Kohlschreiber Vs. Rafael Nadal

Philipp is a tough competitor, it is just in his German heritage. He has a great one handed backhand. He moves well and his serve is very good. Nadal will not miss. He will pound Philipp’s one handed backhand with heavy forehands.

Nick’s Pick- Nadal

Flavia Pennetta Vs. Simona Halep

Pennetta is a feisty player who is very intelligent. She can hit the ball and moves extremely well. She has been in this type of battle before. Halep has been on a roll this summer. She has one of the best 2 handed backhands. At times her forehand can fly. She can serve well, but she can double fault.

This match will be very interesting, but I think the experience of Pennetta gives her the edge, but don’t be surprised about the upset because Halep has no fear at all.

Nick’s Pick- Pennetta
