2008 US Open – Sister Act: Part 2

For the second time this year, Venus and Serena Williams gave us a match to remember. The first one came in the finals at Wimbledon, and the other was last night in the quarters at the US Open. When the two of them get together, there is no better drama in women’s tennis. You have Serena trying to run down every single ball, while Venus is gracefully coming into the net and putting away fantastic volleys. I don’t think I have seen Serena move that well in a long time. She was doing splits, jumping, and diving all over the court. It was truly remarkable tennis.

Watching them play against each other is agonizing and entertaining at the same time. Serena said afterwards she didn’t even want to look at Venus during the match because it would make her feel bad. I want to congratulate both girls and their mother and father for raising them the right way. They are class acts out there and that is what sports is all about. It was fantastic for the sport of tennis, and I can only hope that the girls will meet again sooner rather than later!

What did you think of the match?

  1. Sorry Nick but that match could not have been more staged.
Each match is a fix, come on the head-to-head record was tied at 8-8 until last match.
It is so obvious when Venus has a smash on top of the net to win the set, and she tries to go out wide.
    Come on!

  2. The same think. LAs Vegas invited you to bet on Venus as a +143 odd! Of course some of bought that lie. I know a lot of points were played in a high level. But at the end the agreement was Venus to don´t win.
Both sets she was 5-3 ahead, and in the tiebreaks 6-4 and 6-2 respectively. She lost 10 set points with service, thats not fair!
